The Japan Newsを使って私も翻訳勉強～ (2)
シリーズ (??) 第2段です♪
今回は次のページを参考にさせていただきました。もう少し時間をかけたかったのですが、限られた時間にどこまでできるかということも大切ですね。
課題文
かつて大学進学で地方から上京した若者は東京では電車の中で読書している人の多いことに驚いたものだ。
今、当時の文庫本にかわって乗客の多くが手にしているのはスマートフォンが圧倒的に多い。人々は座席にすわるなり条件反射のようにスマホを取り出す。
読書に関する本紙の全国世論調査によるとスマホを使う時間が長くなるほど読書時間が減ったと答える人の割合が高くなる。
9月に実施した調査の直近1か月間に1冊も本を読まなかった人は全体の53％。これで5年連続半数を超えた。
読書好きには信じられない寂しい数字だ。スマホの効用も多々あろうが、読書時間に影響するようなのめりこみはいただけない。
私の試訳

When young people came to Tokyo to start their college lives from their rural hometowns, they used to be surprised to see so many people reading books on the train.
Nowadays, the majority in passengers' hands have changed to smartphones, no more paperbacks like in the past. Like a Pavlovian reflex, people start using smartphones upon their taking seats.
According to our newspaper’s national survey on book-reading, more people answered that they spent less time for reading, as they spent more time for smartphones.
While the survey was conducted in September, 53% of the total respondents answered they had not read any books during the previous one month. We have seen this trend for 5 consecutive years in which more than half have responded so.
People who love reading would not believe this sad number. While smartphones also have the advantages, however, we should use those with discretion, so as not to negatively influence our time for reading.
単数(has)で受けるべきか文法書で確認が必要･･･

私が比較させていただいた訳にあったように、Yomiuri Newuspaperとした方がいいですね。

これは見本訳にあったように、majorityの方が断然良かったですね。

読売の調査が9月だったのか、9月の別の調査なのかちょっと分かりませんでした。
ここでは、とりあえず読売の調査が9月と仮定しています(間違っているかもしれません)。

日本人的な感覚からbenefitsを最初に考えましたが、アメリカ英語ではadvantagesの方が通りがよいだろうと思いました。（ただし、アメリカでもbenefitsで十分通用すると思います)

"smartly"とするのも考えたが、それはやりすぎでしょうね(笑)。 止めました。
>模範訳の最後は悪くないですね。いろいろ学べそうです！
