【街角の英会話】小ばかにされたように感じてしまうのは私だけでしょうか・・・
先日仕事上での英会話より、街角のスーパーやレストランの英会話に苦労した話のイントロを書きました。
未だにHuh?が嫌い
皆さんは、英会話の最中に自分の言っている英語が伝わらなかった時に、相手に" Huh? "と聞き返された経験はないでしょうか?これにはおそらく次の2つのケースがあるのだろうと思います。
1． 英語が発音的に通じなかったケース
2． 発音的には通じているが、内容が伝わらなかったケース
私は基本的に海外はアメリカ生活が長いのですが、始めのころはこれが嫌で嫌でしょうがありませんでした。特にスーパーなんかで上記の1のケースを何度となく経験しました。
ただ、いろいろ聞いたり読んだりする限りでは、多くの場合に"Huh?"は特に悪気はないようです。
でも小ばかにされたように感じてしまうのは私だけでしょうか・・・ 悪気はないだろうと分かっていても、たまにイラッと来ちゃいます(笑)
私の場合はこの"Huh?"を言われたくなくて、発音がうまくなりたい、さらに言えば"伝わる発音"を身につけたいと思ったのがきっかけです。
